"I have ate here several times and the food is wonderful! I dont understand the people that say that they discrimnate, most of the employees are not white. My boyfriend isnt white and we have great service. Sometimes slow when its packed. But overall great place to eat!" - Angela

"I work near this restaurant and have been there lunch and dinner for months now. The food is excellent especially for the price. I've always had pleasant service and it's often above average, never seen any rudeness or poor service at any level. It can be a little slow around peak time, but in estimation this is not due to them not hustling. They may be a bit understaffed at lunch for some of their rushes and this can cause for a wait, but in fairness other times lunch is extremely light, so it's creates a staffing dilemma for them. They do add automatic 17% (I believe) gratuity for 6 or more. It's posted plainly numerous places and it's clearly on the bill when you get. I give them an A-/B+ and I am a tough grader...very good overall. Very authentic." - egami

"I have gone to Cool Basil over 15 times since it opened. Service and the food have been wonderful every single time. I do admit the service is a bit slow during lunch when you are trying to rush out and get back to work. But you have to realize that you are going to a small restaurant, not a fast food or a big chain restaurant which is going to have much larger staff. I find it –very– hard to believe that some reviewer(s) have found the place to discriminate against certain crowd; I am not white and I have gone there with people of different ethnicity, each time the service have been very courteous. If there is ever a Zagat for Des Moines, I would rate this place: 20 – Food; 18 – Décor; 19 – service; 22 – cost. " - Saeed

"Terrible service!! Dishonest people!! My husband double tipped them without knowing they already added 17% tips on his bill even after he questioned them. So he gave them a tip of 36% in total for lousy service. The waitor was rude. Echoing the first review listed above, it makes me wonder if they treat people differently based on ethnicity. "Food in this restaurent is really good.But the restaurent service sucks.It's horrible.Specially if you are not white skin or American then you will not get a good service here.I went here 4-5 times.Once with mu Mexican Friends and then with my American Friends.When I went with Mexican Friends I got really horrible sevice.Servers didn't turn for 15 min,we didn't even get the water,and when we asked about the food contents we got very rude answer.I didn't even feel go give tip to the server.When I went with my american frinds I got really good service by the same server.I don't know why they are doing like this.Can management consider changing this habits of giving good service to only americans and worst service to others.I never got bad service in any American restaurant and this Asian restaurants gave worst service in my life.I will always mention this fact to all the people and will never reccomend this restaurant to anyone." - Maria
